Success is the most elusive thing on the planet. It is the hardest thing to achieve and maintain in the universe. In fact, only the very lucky can get to succeed at what they want. People that succeed are special and from out of this world. To succeed, you must be ready to leave everything else and focus solely on your goal. That is the only way to succeed.
Of course, I am just joking. However, the above statements are some common misconceptions of what success really is. It is not the hardest or most elusive thing. You only just need to be ready for it and it will walk in to meet you. You only need form the habits that encourage success to make you a permanent destination and you will experience it; it may not necessarily be instantly but if you have the required habits and thinking process, it is inevitable that you are going to succeed.
However, it is that despite the fact that everybody wants to succeed; only a few actually can actually identify and select the right kind of happiness they want. A lot of people waste their lives chasing after what they consider success, only to achieve it and realize that this is not their own success. They run after fake promises of happiness, get them and then, realize that they still feel unfulfilled and unsuccessful. They get empty shells instead of the oysters that their pursuits promised them.
That is the first thing you need to do; redefine your understanding of success. What you are prepared to accept as success may be markedly different from mine. Yet, it doesn’t mean you should make my own brand of success yours. Point in case; while some of his peers were trying hard to secure scholarships for college, so that they could get good jobs at the end and get some money, Bill Gates, dropped out of college to achieve his own brand of success. While his peers sought to earn decent money, Gates made more than them all combined.
Your success is specific to you. It is not to be measured by the number of Ferraris, Rolex watches, Ferragamos, Versaces or houses in your life. That may be some other person’s own measure of success but it doesn’t have to be yours. Bob Dylan was spot on when he said; “What’s money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.” In fact, the most satisfying of success is when it has to deal with the lives you have touched and not the material possessions you have acquired. That is a story for another day though. What I want you to take from this right now is that your success is yours only to decide.
Again, for all of the common myths about success, most people conveniently ignore the most critical point about success; it is intentional. You cannot achieve astounding success by mere fortune. You cannot just dream of success and have it handed to you on a platter of gold. There are just too many people out there dreaming and working hard to get success that there is not enough left for those not working for it to achieve any. If you must partake of success, you must go out of your way to bring a plate and fork to the buffet table. It is only then that you can take your own share of success.
